NDC Rejects Opposition Coalition Pullout Claims, Vows to Push Ahead to 2027 Presidential Race
ABUJA, Oct 18 – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will not withdraw its presidential ticket in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other political grouping ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general election, vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said on Sunday.
Speaking in a statement published on his verified social handles, the former Kano State governor reaffirmed his joint ticket with presidential candidate Peter Gregory Obi, describing the alliance as a deliberate effort to prioritize national development over political realignments.
"We see no possibility or reason to withdraw from the presidential race in favour of the ADC candidate or any other," Kwankwaso stated, responding to persistent media speculation surrounding opposition realignment, as reported by [TheCable](https://www.thecable.ng/ndc-wont-withdraw-from-presidential-race-for-any-party-kwankwaso-replies-adc/).
Kwankwaso urged party members and voters across the country to focus on the NDC's platform, which centers on economic productivity, security reform, and poverty reduction across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
The clarification comes as the NDC continues to position its policy blueprint against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing a transition from consumption to production and measurable public accountability.
Opposing political forces and analysts, however, have questioned whether unaligned opposition parties can prevent vote-splitting in 2027 without a unified coalition structure. Supporters of the ruling party maintain that opposition fragmentation will strengthen the incumbent administration's electoral path.
Despite those arguments, the NDC campaign leadership maintained that its grassroots structure and policy agenda represent the most viable alternative for voters seeking institutional reforms in 2027.
Social Democratic Party (SDP)
Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo stated on Sunday that he remains open to a broader opposition consensus provided it focuses on policy solutions rather than political expediency. Speaking in an interview reported by [Legit.ng](https://www.legit.ng/politics/1736710-2027-election-sdps-adebayo-opens-possibility-stepping-price-high-pay/), Adebayo emphasized that any viable coalition must center on concrete frameworks to eradicate poverty and restore national security across the country. Additionally, Adebayo criticized the state of the public health sector during a weekend address in Lagos covered by [Vanguard](https://www.vanguardngr.com/2026/10/toluwanisings-adebayo-blasts-fg-over-nigerias-dead-healthcare-system/), calling for comprehensive institutional overhauls of basic medical facilities.
African Action Congress (AAC)
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore criticized security agencies over weekend statements regarding neutrality in the upcoming 2027 polls. As reported by [Naija News](https://www.naijanews.com/2026/10/17/partisan-hack-for-tinubu-leave-2027-alone-sowore-blasts-defence-minister-musa/), Sowore questioned official assurances regarding election security and demanded independent oversight of defense policy. The AAC campaign also announced plans to utilize legal proceedings in Abuja as part of its public advocacy strategy to highlight civil rights and governance standards throughout the campaign season.
