NDC prepares grassroots strategy ahead of national campaign council rollout

By Henzem kutyen · October 23, 2026

ABUJA, Oct 23 – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has ramped up grassroots consultations across the country's six geopolitical zones as party leaders finalize preparations for the upcoming launch of its national campaign council for the January 2027 general election.

The opposition alliance, led by presidential candidate Peter Gregory Obi and running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is focusing its pre-campaign messaging on structural economic reform, accountability in governance, and robust regional coordination.

Party organizers stated that the upcoming campaign council inauguration, rescheduled for late October to allow for broader stakeholder input, will establish a unified framework to address pressing domestic challenges, including inflation and security.

"Our goal remains centered on building an inclusive platform that listens directly to ordinary Nigerians and offers sustainable solutions to the country's economic hurdles," an NDC national stakeholder noted during preparatory meetings in Abuja.

Supporters maintain that the joint ticket's combination of fiscal discipline and extensive administrative experience provides a credible, policy-driven alternative for the electorate.

Ruling party representatives and political critics have, however, questioned whether opposition groups can sustain cohesive strategies amid varying regional interests, suggesting that electoral contests will remain highly competitive.

Despite those counter-arguments, NDC leadership maintains that its disciplined grassroots outreach and clear policy agenda will continue to resonate strongly with voters as the 2027 race approaches.
