NDC emphasizes policy focus and local mobilization ahead of 2027 polls

By Henzem kutyen · October 20, 2026

ABUJA, Oct 20 – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has underscored its commitment to structured grassroots mobilisation and economic policy reform as preparations intensify across the country for the January 2027 general election.

Leadership figures within the opposition alliance highlighted that the joint presidential ticket of Peter Gregory Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso continues to consolidate its nationwide campaign structures to address pressing socio-economic challenges.

Party strategists noted that the platform's core policy objectives centre on transitioning Nigeria's economy from consumption to production, stabilizing the national currency, and reforming public expenditure to alleviate household burdens.

"Our focus remains firmly on providing Nigerians with a transparent, competent, and accountable leadership alternative that directly tackles poverty and insecurity," an NDC campaign official stated during a stakeholder engagement session in Abuja.

Supporters of the party argue that the combination of Obi’s fiscal governance background and Kwankwaso’s extensive grassroots network offers a formidable framework for national renewal.

Political analysts and representatives of the governing party, however, have questioned whether the opposition can maintain long-term cohesion, pointing to ongoing debates over coalition alignments and divergent regional strategies.

Despite those political counter-arguments, the NDC leadership maintains that its policy-first approach and direct outreach to voters across all six geopolitical zones will set the standard for the 2027 presidential campaign.
