NDC rejects coalition withdrawal claims, maintains independent path to 2027 polls
ABUJA, Oct 19 – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed speculation regarding a potential withdrawal from the upcoming presidential race, affirming that its joint ticket of Peter Gregory Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains fully committed to the 2027 general election.
Speaking through official party statements and responses published across media platforms, the opposition alliance emphasized that its campaign focus rests squarely on grassroots mobilisation, economic reform, and tackling national security challenges.
"We see no possibility or reason to withdraw from the presidential race in favour of any other party," vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso stated in a recent reaction reported by TheCable, addressing rumours of potential compromises with other opposition groups.
The campaign leadership noted that both Obi and Kwankwaso are actively harmonizing party structures and local networks to build a robust framework capable of addressing Nigeria's macroeconomic pressures, currency volatility, and infrastructural deficits.
Supporters of the NDC argue that the pairing of Obi's economic governance record with Kwankwaso's extensive grassroots following offers the electorate a credible and experienced leadership alternative.
Ruling party representatives and political critics, however, contend that persistent fragmentation among opposition actors will ultimately benefit the incumbent administration, suggesting that a unified coalition would be necessary to challenge the ruling party effectively.
Despite these differing perspectives, the NDC campaign maintains that its policy-driven outreach across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones continues to attract widespread citizen support ahead of the January 2027 ballot.
