Nigeria faces power shortfalls and hospital disruptions as doctors highlight service strain
ABUJA, Oct 16 – Nigeria’s power sector continues to face supply shortfalls, with the federal Power Minister stating that no tariff increase is planned for 2027, according to a report shared by Nigeria Info FM (@NigeriainfoFM). At the same time, resident doctors at University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan completed a three-day warning strike over a prolonged electricity blackout and water shortages affecting the College of Medicine axis, suspending the action on 15 October while issuing further ultimatums, local reporting and social media accounts noted.
Posts on X, including from user @Isiaq_o1, described patient impacts from hospital disruptions, including delays in care for serious conditions. Nigerian authorities have not issued a unified national statement reconciling the power and health service issues as of 16 October.
