Rwanda: Partners Rehabilitate Marshland for Irrigation and Farmer Support
KIGALI, Oct 23 – South Korea’s Ambassador to Rwanda inspected a rehabilitated marshland project in Gisagara District, a $12.5 million initiative supported by KOICA, the World Food Programme and the Rwandan government, according to a post by @JMukundente shared on X.
The 600-hectare area spanning Gisagara and Nyanza districts, previously flood-prone, now includes modern irrigation, drainage and access roads. Local farmers have received training aimed at higher yields of rice and maize. Ambassador Huh Jungae linked the work to Korea’s development model and Rwanda’s community practice of Umuganda. Separately, Nigerian Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu visited Rwanda on 19 October for talks on expanding military cooperation, including cadet exchanges and counter-terrorism training, as reported by @albcontact.
