Sierra Leone: Supreme Court proceedings on constitutional amendment draw calls for restraint
The Supreme Court is considering proceedings related to the Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2025, including challenges to the Speaker’s ruling on voting procedures. The Centre for Accountability and Rule of Law–Sierra Leone (CARL-SL) urged political leaders, lawyers and the public to exercise restraint and prioritise the Constitution and rule of law, in a statement reported by @awokonewspaper on 9–10 October. Earlier drama involved the Chief Justice ordering the arrest of a senior opposition All People’s Congress lawyer for contempt. Separate reporting has linked European Union aid decisions to concerns over the handling of a wanted narcotics figure. These issues were highlighted in posts by @awokonewspaper.
