Plateau State, Nigeria: Security Forces Deploy After Attacks; State Government Prioritises Peace and IDP Returns
JOS, Oct 18 – Nigerian authorities have directed security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for attacks in areas including Angwan Rukuba in Jos North, with troops under Operation Enduring Peace deployed and a curfew imposed to stabilise the environment.
The Federal Government described the violence as tragic and stated there would be no safe haven for those responsible. Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang has coordinated with federal officials and reaffirmed efforts to enable the safe return of internally displaced persons once conditions allow, while expanding grassroots security through the graduation of additional Operation Rainbow operatives.
Recent incidents reported by local sources include killings of community vigilantes and continued concerns over attacks and cattle rustling in parts of the state. On X, accounts such as @Turen_me reported Nigerian Army arrests of suspected illegal arms fabricators and gunrunners in Mangu and Barkin Ladi, while @masskeemz detailed ongoing attacks despite earlier arrests and meetings between state and federal leaders. @PlatinumPostNg and others carried reports of vigilante deaths.
