Amnesty International highlights persistent violence and justice concerns in Plateau State
JOS, Oct 16 – Amnesty International Nigeria (@AmnestyNigeria) reported on 15 October that its team was in Jos, Plateau State, on 7 October for a press conference and meetings with civil society groups and activists addressing ongoing killings, mob violence and gender-based violence. The organisation cited long-running bloodshed, the failure of authorities to end impunity, and resulting risks to lives and food security, while recognising local activists and lawyers working on accountability.
Separately, Amnesty has criticised the Plateau State Government for discontinuing the prosecution of a man accused of defiling a four-year-old girl despite a court warrant, calling for the case to be reinstated. Local reporting and posts, including from conflict reporter @masskeemz, have documented recent attacks in areas such as Bokkos and elsewhere in the state. Nigerian authorities have not issued a detailed public response to the latest Amnesty statements as of 16 October.
